INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL LEADERSHIP

EARCOS Action Research Grant (Academic Year 2016/17 - 2017/18)
Question: If we teach mindfulness within the class curriculum, pastoral care programs, and faculty meetings, will we increase a student's ability to identify and self regulate their emotions and to use appropriate strategies in response to situations?

Reasoning: In an International School in Asia, students face cultural pressures to achieve academically as the main priority, where wellbeing is not always considered. Our school has identified wellbeing as a priority in its annual strategic review. This has come from the increased awareness of stress and negative behaviours and emotions demonstrated by students. Increased wellbeing can lead to students’ ability to progress academically and to become healthy, balanced individuals.

I completed the above Action Research at ISS International School, Singapore with an elementary teacher and our high school wellness counsellor and presented our Mindfulness Journey at the EARCOS Leadership conference in October, 2017 in Bangkok. See the research paper and our results below.
